Plenty of Malabar’s business is done on a handshake and a phone call. That’s a real strength, and it got many family firms a long way, from SM Street traders to groups with outlets across the Gulf.
The difficulty comes when the business outgrows the people who hold it together. A supplier’s real terms live in one person’s memory. The owner’s away for a month and decisions stack up. The next generation returns from abroad and nobody quite knows what they’re allowed to change.
We’re based in Trivandrum, and we come to Kozhikode for the work that has to happen on your floor. The work itself is the same as anywhere: find where the business depends on you, then build the SOPs, roles and training so it stops. Though we’ll say this: if you’re running a Kerala business from Riyadh or Dubai, you’ll feel the difference sooner than most.
